Meet Aspiring Author & Illustrator:

Emily Schoen

As a child, I have always enjoyed storytelling and would create picture books in most of my free time. I would imagine new adventures and funny concepts and would spend hours drawing these ideas into short stories.

As I grew into my preteen and teenage years I stopped and focused more on school and my personal life. It wasn’t until college that I turned back to what I knew I enjoyed and found comfort in, storytelling through art. I got my associate’s in studio art at my local community college where I learned all the basics of design, color theory, perspective, and creating art with intention.

I transferred to Cal State University of Northridge where I received my bachelor’s degree in art with an emphasis in animation. Focusing on animation honed my skills with storytelling through drawings and all the planning and designing elements that come together to make ideas come to life. After graduating I knew I wanted to at least try to write and illustrate my own children’s book. It was always a goal of mine and now I finally have the time to try it out and do it.

I have always connected with nature and animals and even now I still find comfort in focusing on these themes throughout my art and stories. I hope I can continue to expand on these themes and create more stories and visual creations that both children and adults can enjoy!
